Greece

Greece the land of Gods. We went there in September 2017. To be more precise we stayed on the island Evia, in Meteora area and visited the city of Athens. We stayed in Greece a bit over one week and in that time we had two different hotels. After arrival we rented a car from the airport and drove to Meteora. The rental car is the best way to travel there. The Meteora is located in central Greece and it is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is one of the largest complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries.

If you go there (which you should do) remember that you have to dress modestly. The entrance fee for all the monasteries is 3€ per person. Most of them have little shops from where you can buy some souvenirs.

After staying in the Meteora we went to the island Evia or as the locals say Euboia. It is the 2nd largest island in Greece and it is just a short drive from Athens. The island is most known for its beaches, historical sites, forested mountains, hot springs and great food (it really was great). After I have been there I truly understand why locals go there for their holidays. I saw there the most beautiful beach I have ever seen and it was called Thapsá.

No wonder I liked the place when we were basically the only ones there. As September is for locals already autumn the beaches are very empty. Although I guess in Thapsá there is another reason for that. The road to the beach was horrible!! There are two roads that goes there and we chose the one that Google Maps recommended. Never do that!

Blue is the bad option

I think it all started 6 km before the beach. The road got smaller and smaller and rocks on the road got bigger and bigger. At the beginning we thought many times that maybe we should go back but luckily (or not) I am so stubborn and I thought how bad can it be. Well it went really bad. I think 4 km before the end we broke one tire.

The road was so narrow and on the edge of the cliff that we couldn’t turn around. I guess most of the time I hold my eyes closed and I think I wasn’t the only one… When we reached the beach our cars both sides were totally full of scratches and there were “some” broken parts under the car. I am so happy that we had the full insurance.

I know we broke the car but it was worth it. The beach was just amazing. We went back by using the other road and it was really bad also but of course not as horrible as the first one. When we drove back we saw another beautiful beach called Metohiou.

September is a good time to visit Greece because the water is still warm for Estonians and there are not so many tourists anymore. As I mentioned before the food in Greece is delicious and of course so is the wine.

On our trip to Greece we stayed one day in Athens. Of course when you go there you have to visit The Acropolis of Athens. It is also in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Unfortunately there were so many tourists (it wasn’t even the high season) and big part of it was under construction. I think it looked most beautiful from the distance.

I really liked Greece because the weather was nice and food was great. So go there and enjoy.

Loe eesti keeles:

Jumalate maa Kreeka. Me käisime seal septembris 2017.

See on Ateena lähistel asuv suuruselt teine saar Kreekas.

Nimelt on tee randa kohutav!! Randa viib kaks teed ja meie sõitsime Google Mapsi juhiste järgi. Ärge mitte mingil juhul seda tehke!

Sinine tee on halvem variant

20170912_124826
